President: Iran, Not Indifferent Toward Syria

Tehran, Sept 16, IRNA – President Hassan Rohani said Monday that the Islamic Republic of Iran has never been indifferent towards the determining issue of Syria. “Iran would do all within its reach to prevent outbreak of a war against Syria,” stressed the President while addressing a national gathering of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) here. He added that none of the regional states were unconcerned about Syria. President Rohani criticized US wrong conclusion about Iran’s presence in the region. “US is wrongly thinking that Iran is seeking to have military dominance over the region. “If Iran is presently the influential power in the region it is because of its power of dialogue,” said the President. He stressed that Iran’s dialogue “is the dialogue of stability, unity, brotherhood and democracy as well as the dialogue of fighting against terrorism in the entire region as Iran is a victim of chemical and mass destruction weapons. “Iran is not after military dominance in the region,” he said, urging the West to abandon hatching plots in the region. Referring to the influential role of the IRGC in the region, President Rohani said “the IRGC is the corps of peace and security not that of war.” Criticizing certain states for their military presence in the region, he said they are uninvited guests” who should leave the region. “Our region will be a flower garden without you (foreign forces).” He urged the West to stop spreading Iranophobia among regional states. “Iran supports the rule of people anywhere including in Syria, Iraq and the Palestine,” said the President. He stressed that Tehran would support anyone who would be elected by the Syrian people to run the country./end
