Rohani Still Heading Rivals In Early Election Results

Tehran, June 15, IRNA – The latest results of Iranˈs presidential election vote counting Saturday morning showed that Hassan Rohani continued to go widely ahead of his rivals with 4,125,032 votes. According to the seventh statement of the election headquarters of the Interior Ministry, the results were gained out of the 8,050,838 valid votes from a total 8,319,768 votes counted so far. The latest results of the vote counts are as follows: Hassan Rohani: 4,125,032 Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf: 1,341,947 Saeed Jalili: 1,056,327 Mohsen Rezaei: 902,121 Ali Akbar Velayati: 521,097 Mohammad Gharazi: 104,214 Millions of Iranians on Friday attended polling stations to choose the country’s 11th president as well as their representatives in the city and rural councils. Under the election rules, a candidate has to win more than 50 percent of the total votes cast to win outright. A first round winner gaining less than that must compete with the runner-up in a second round a week later. Some 50.5 million Iranians, including over 1.6 million first-time voters, were eligible to vote in the June 14 elections./end
