Rohani Wins 50.03% Of Counted Votes So Far

Tehran, June 15, IRNA – Latest reports coming from Interior Ministry said that presidential candidate Hassan Rohani has won 50.03 percent of the total valid votes counted so far in Iranˈs 11th presidential election. Reports from the election headquarters of the Interior Ministry said that Rohani, leading his rivals, has won 6,049,655 of votes. He was followed by Tehranˈs Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf who received 15.25 percent (1,844,463 ballots). Meanwhile, Mohsen Rezaei by enjoying 12.56 percent of valid counted votes stayed at the third place with 1,518,964 votes. The fourth one was Saeed Jalili who received 11.58 percent of the valid counted votes (1,400,712). Ali Akbar Velayati with 6.02 percent (729,044 ballots) and Mohammad Gharazi with 1.18 percent of the valid counted ballots (143,301) have stood at the fifth and sixth places respectively. Under the election rules, a candidate has to win more than 50 percent of the total votes cast to win outright. A first round winner gaining less than that must compete with the runner-up in a second round a week later./end
