Surin urges PM to explain Thai situations at UNGA

BANGKOK, September 21 (TNA) -- Surin Pitsuwan, former secretary-general of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), asked Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to explain the situations of Thailand to the international community at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Mr Surin told the Thai News Agency that the international community was paying attention to whatever the Thai government was doing, so the prime minister should take the opportunity to inform it that Thailand was seriously working out its political balance and practical democracy. He was referring to Gen Prayut's presence at the upcoming UNGA set from Sept 23 to 30. "I think that many leaders want to hear and listen especially to the speech (of Gen Prayut) in the United Nations General Assembly. It will be the opportunity where people of 192 other countries will be listening, learning and understanding our process," Mr Surin said. He also said that the new team of constitution drafters should listen to the majority of people in the country in order to work out a charter that would be practical and reflect the real situations of the society.
