UN Failure In Resolving Crises Highlights NAM Role : Official

Beirut, Aug 29, IRNA – A Lebanese intellectual believes that the United Nations' failure in resolving the international crises have highlighted the effective role the Non-Aligned Movement in leadership of the international community. Hassan Jouni, a university professor and also advisor to Lebanon's foreign minister, told IRNA the UN failure is due to the US domination over the UN Security Council. He then referred to the NAM Summit of Leaders underway in Tehran and said it is different from those of the Summits held in the past. Pointing to Tehran as a good place for holding such meeting, Jouni said the Islamic Republic of Iran will play key role in the international and regional arenas to establish peace and security. The enemies' plot to weaken Iran through pitting terrorist groups against its ally- Syria- has failed, said the Lebanese official adding the NAM meeting marks a victory for the Iranian nation. Jouni said the Tehran NAM meeting is significant because it is focusing on the important issues including the regional crises as well as threats posed tp the member states. He added the Tehran meeting carries the message of peace and friendship. The Lebanese analyst hoped Tehran's plan would be successful to resolve the Syrian crisis./end
