Russia’s Shchebelin leads in Moscow-Vladivostok bicycle race before final stage

MOSCOW, August 9. /TASS/. Russian bicycle racer Alexey Shchebelin is leading in the general classification of the Red Bull Trans-Siberian Extreme ultra-stage race before the final stage. Shchebelin has won Stage 13 that was held between Svobodny and Khabarovsk, having covered a distance of 754km in 32hrs 4mins 10secs. He was followed by Germany’s Pierre Bischoff (32:20.11) and Brazil’s Marcelo Florentino Soares (32:26.28). Denmark’s Peter Sandholt pulled out from the race. Shchebelin is leading in the general classification with an overall time of 283hrs 54mins 36secs, followed by Bischoff (287:12.59) and Soares (297:41.43). The final stage Khabarovsk-Vladivostok kicks off on Wednesday. The riders will have to cover 761km. The multi-stage race covering a total of 9,200 km consists of 14 stages. It started on July 18 in Moscow and will end on August 10 in Vladivostok. The racers will cross five climatic and seven time zones, over 80 km of ascents and spend more than three weeks riding.
