Taiwanese ITRI files patent infringement suits against Samsung

SEOUL, Jan. 14 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's Samsung Electronics said Thursday that
the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) of Taiwan has filed several
patent infringement lawsuits against it.

In June and October of last year, the ITRI filed a total of seven suits against
Samsung Electronics and a U.S. unit of Samsung Electronics with a U.S. court in
Arkansas for allegedly violating its patents, the South Korean company said.
The lawsuits are reportedly related to patents on semiconductors, displays and
handsets, but Samsung Electronics did not reveal details on the lawsuits.
"We will do our best to prove that we did not infringe on ITRI's patent," an
official at Samsung Electronics said on condition of anonymity.
