KOREAN INVESTOR TO BUILD PLTA IN MAMUJU

Mamuju, W Sulawesi, Jan 24 (ANTARA) - A Korean investor has expressed readiness to make an investment in a hydro-power plant (PLTA) in the Karama river basin in Mamuju, West Sulawesi province.

The remark was made by West Sulawesi Governor Anwar Adnan Saleh after visiting Ummi Darmiati, a young boy suffering from a strange disease being treated at a hospital here Sunday.
Anwar said the foreign investors conducting an inspection of the Karama river basin along with a group of Chairman of the Capital Investment Agency (BKPPM) Gita Wirjawan last week have reached good results as one of them has expressed interest in investing in PLTA Karama.

"A proposal sent to Jakarta was directly responded to by the Korean investor by way of his embassy in Jakarta. Right now we are only awaiting the follow up for PLTA Karama," he said.

He said the building of the 1,800 megawatts (MW) PLTA Karama may cost Rp 6 trillion.

Anwar said PLTA Karama will supply enough electricity to various parts of West Sulawesi, especially that PLTA Bakaru currently operating there could not fully satisfy the power needs of the population.
