Nobel Prize laureates speak at 4th Global Competitiveness Forum


Riyadh, January 26, 2010, SPA -- A number of Nobel Prize laureates have
underscored the importance of creating a suitable environment for taking all
the necessary care for the Prize's winners in the long run.


In addresses at the 4th Global Competitiveness Forum, now in progress in
Riyadh, the laureates called yesterday for a social environment that
understands the importance of the researches conducted by the scientists and
institutions.


They also called for allocating more sums of money for taking care of the
scientists and extending support to their studies and researches.


Kristi Allen Denkan, a Nobel Prize laureate, said it has become an essential
matter for the scientists, notably Nobel prize laureates to give utmost
attention to the ethical matters prior to speaking about their achievements.


Dr Robert Richardson, another Nobel prize laureate, highlighted the importance
of training and rehabilitation of places where additionally research works
could be undertaken with the required financial investments in a manner that
serves the entire world.


On her part, Dr Mary Waler from Texas university, called for further
development in the domains of sciences and engineering in addition to formation
of teams that work for tackling problems.


Pointing to the upcoming works of King Abdullah University for Sciences and
Technology (KAUST), notably in the fields of mathematical and chemical
engineering, she said KAUST includes the fastest computer in the middle east
region.


Dr Harry Kroto from Florida State University, linked 27 conflicts in the world
with religious differences.


He urged the scientists who work in the field of production of bombs to work
for a better life instead of manufacturing destructive weapons.



Ian Bremer, Head of EURAS said the changes witnessed by the world during the
last 15 months are similar to the changes caused by the second world war
because the countries of the world have started to focus on domestic issues
notably the big powers like the US and China.


He noted that the process of cash flow and financing operations will be
governed by political decisions, adding that the most important issue due to be
witnessed by the current world will be the American-Chinese relations.


On his part, Martin Broton, President of British Airways, called for tackling
problems like slowness in economic growth rate, rise of oil prices and
financing problems.


Meanwhile, Dr Ghada Al-Miteiri from California University in San Diago,
underscored the importance of implementing medical projects that involves the
advanced technology.


She attributed the increase in the rate of diseases in the 21st century to the
population growth.


Michio Kaka, a professor in physics from the City University, New York, called
for utilization of Nano Technology in combating cancer diseases.
