Court ruling on Thaksin assets won’t affect liquidity, says SCB chief

BANGKOK, Feb 11 (TNA) – Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) President Kannikar Chalitaporn on Wednesday affirmed that the bank’s financial liquidity would not be affected if the Supreme Court Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions ruled in favour of the seizure of convicted ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra’s Bt76 billion in frozen assets.

She revealed deposits placed by the ex-premier and his children with the bank totalling around Bt30 billion remained intact and the bank had paid interest on the deposits as usual.

Mrs Kannikar said the bank needed not make any special arrangements in preparation for the ruling on the assets confiscation by the court.

Should the court rule to confiscate the assets, she believed, it would not impact the bank’s financial liquidity because the deposits placed by the former premier’s family are small when compared with the bank’s total assets and deposits. (TNA)
