India allows 50,000 tonnes wheat export to Nepal

New Delhi, Feb 10 (PTI) Indian government has allowed
export of 50,000 tonnes of wheat to Nepal from the central
reserves.

There is a ban on export of wheat since October 2007 and
the government has been relaxing it periodically on diplomatic
ground.
In a notification, the Director General of Foreign Trade
(DGFT) said the prohibition shall not be applicable to export
of 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat to Nepal.
The government has also appointed the Food Corporation of
India (FCI) as the agency to carry out the shipment.
"(Wheat) shall be exported by FCI out of the Central Pool
stock at economic cost," the DGFT notification said.
FCI had about 23 million tonnes of wheat reserves on
January 1, 2010 as against the buffer norm of 8.2 million
tonnes. The economic cost of wheat is about Rs 15 a kg which
includes the purchase price, taxes, warehouse and handling
charges. PTI NKD PDM
