Finance ministry launches dictionary app for iPhone users

SEOUL, Feb. 17 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's finance ministry said Wednesday it has
launched a mobile dictionary application for Apple's iPhone to help users better
understand fast-changing economic conditions.
The application can be downloaded for free from the App Store of the U.S.
company, known for mobile devices including mega-hit smartphone iPhone and other
music player products, according to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance.
It has a total of 2,500 headwords, consisting mostly of economy-related terms
needed to help people better understand the latest economic conditions and key
current issues, the ministry said. The words were chosen by the ministry and
reviewed by the Korea Development Institute, a state-run think tank.
The launch of the app by the finance ministry reflects the growing emphasis that
government agencies are placing on new media to better promote and explain their
policies to the public, observers said.
The ministry said it is considering providing more information and data through
apps for the iPhone and other smartphone devices, including major economic
indicators, government policies and press releases.
