Energomashexport signs contract to build HPS in S Chile.

SANTIAGO, February 24 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian Energomashexport
enterprise and the Chilean Hydroelectrica Pilmaiquen Company have signed a
contract here for the delivery, assembly and adjustment of equipment for
a Rucatayo hydropower station (RHPS) in Chile's south, an official at the
Embassy of Russia to Chile told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
It is expected that the Rucatayo HPS must be built within two years
and its power will be 50 megawatts. Embassy Counsellor Galina Kuznetsova
has said the HPS will be a branch one: the turbine is to be installed on
an arm of the Pilmaiquen river in southern Chile.
Its construction will not require the building of a dam and a water
reservoir. This will help avoid damage to the environment. Such stations
are reckoned ecologically pure. The Rucatayo HPS will be the first in a
series of three utilities that are to be built on the Pilmaiquen river. A
tender for a second station is to be announced in 2011. The
Energomashexport is to participate in it, Kuznetsova said.
