SIZE OF FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT INCREASES

Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ In the fourth quarter of 2009, the foreign direct investment equaled to 284.1 million US dollars and it increased by 157.5 million US dollars or 2.2 times against the previous year. The direct investment in Mongolia equaled to 184.5 million US dollars and increased by 57.2 million US dollars or 1.4 times compared to the same period of the previous year.
In the first two months of 2010, Mongolia traded with 86 countries from all over the world and the total external trade turnover reached 607.6 million US dollars, of which exports made up 311.7 million US dollars and imports did 295.8 million US dollars. Against the previous year, the total external trade turnover increased by 169.4 million US dollars or 38.7 per cent, of which exports increased by 79.3 million US dollars or 34.1 per cent, imports increased by 90.0 million US dollars or 43.7 per cent, respectively.
The total external trade balance turned a surplus of 15.9 million US dollars. The surplus is decreased by 10.6 million US dollars or 40.0 per cent compared with the same period of the previous year. Against the previous year, even there is a declines of 85.1 per cent in volume and 83.5 per cent in value of gold, in unwrought or semi-manufactured forms, the total export increased with contributions of 2.1 per cent in volume and 2.2 times in value of copper concentrate, 3.8 times in volume and 8.0 times in value of zinc concentrate, and 2.3 times in volume and 3.0 times in value of the iron ores, respectively.
