Kolon Industries expands optical film manufacturing facility

SEOUL, March 9 (Yonhap) -- Kolon Industries Inc., South Korea's leading textile
and chemical material producer, has expanded its optical film manufacturing
facility in the southeastern area of the country, the company said Wednesday.
The expansion will raise Kolon Industries' annual production capacity of optical
film for electronic materials to 30,000 tons from the current 15,000 tons, it
said.
"We will foster display-related material business by stepping up investment in
infrastructure and R&D and fully utilizing our specialty in electronic
materials," Kolon Industries President Bae Young-ho said during a ceremony
marking the completion of the facility in Gimcheon, 234 kilometers southeast of
Seoul.
The polyester film, which measures between 0.25 and 0.3 millimeter thick, is used
for touch screens, liquid-crystal display and plasma display panels.
