Finance minister confident Japanese will understand political standoff

BANGKOK, Mar 12 (TNA) – Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij on Thursday expressed confidence that Japanese investors will understand the ongoing
political standoff in Thailand and remain interested in investing in the country despite the difficult situation now.

Speaking of a planned road show to Japan taking place this weekend (March 12-13), he said he believed the Thai government’s investment promotion policy and its efforts to facilitate investment by foreign investors would draw attention from Japanese investors.

He said the Japanese investors viewed investment as a long-term activity and that they see the ongoing rallies by Thailand's anti-government Red Shirt demonstrators simply as specific political probems which the government must respond to.

Mr Korn said he would take private sector executives to meet their Japanese counterparts regarding investment opportunities in both countries.

He said the Board of Investment’s representatives were assigned to explain policies on investment incentives to Japanese investors and the Industry Ministry’s officials to clarify doubts over investment suspensions in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate. (TNA)
