ISTANBUL ATATURK AIRPORT WINNER OF "BEST AIRPORT SOUTHERN EUROPE"



ISTANBUL (A.A) - 24.03.2010 - Turkey's Istanbul Ataturk Airport won the title of "The Best Airport of Southern Europe" by Skytrax, Britain-based research group.
A statement by TAV Airports Holding operating Ataturk Airport said on Wednesday that the Skytrax World Airport Awards were announced in Brussels on March 23, 2010 and Ataturk Airport became the winner of "the best airport" of Southern Europe as a result of researches conducted by Skytrax. 
TAV Istanbul Director General Kemal Unlu received the award at the ceremony in Brussels.
Spain's Barcelona Airport became the second best airport and Madrid Airport won the title of the third best airport in Southern Europe.
Ataturk Airport is the major international airport in Istanbul, Turkey. Located in Yesilkoy, on the European side of the city, it is 24 km west of the city centre. The airport is named in honor of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder and the first president of the Republic of Turkey. With total passenger traffic of 30 million for the year 2009, it is among the top 40 airports in the world in terms of total passenger traffic and top-20 in terms of international passenger traffic. It is Europe's 9th busiest airport.
