W JAVA COOPERATES WITH CHINESE HEILONGJIANG PROVINCE

Bandung, Indonesia, March 24 (ANTARA) - The West Java provincial administration plans to cooperate with the Chinese province of Heilongjiang in the fields of agriculture, tourism and technology, it said in a press statement recieved here on Wednesday.

West Java governor Ahmad Heryawan in a recent visit to Heilongjiang signed the draft memorandum of understanding for it with Li Zhansu, the governor of Heilongjiang which is known for its agriculture and animal husbandry, it said.

The two provincial governments would soon exchange delegations to explore the content of the cooperation.

"This shows the seriousness of the West Java provincial administration to increase cooperation with all parties. It is hoped the cooperation will help improve the people's economy," it said quoting governor Heryawan.

Heryawan said the cooperation was aimed at increasing economic cooperation and exploitation of the potentials of the two provinces.

He said West Java wishes to increase its agricultural industry especially rice and corn production.

He said Heilongjiang has an advanced agricultural technology that helps increase its agricultural productivity.

He said West Java needs to adopt it to boost the production of the two agricultural products which is very potential in West Java.

"The quality of Heilongjiang rice is very good and so is its corn. With regard to corn we plan to direct its production for animal feed," he said.

Heilongjiang that borders on Russia is able to meet 30 percent of particularly rice for China although it only harvests once a year but with a plant growth period longer than in Indonesia.

"So the difference with Indonesia is on the technology and method of development," Heryawan said.***
