School pupils establish museum

Kokshetau, April 06, 2010 (Khabar) - A unique museum is in operation at the Kokshetau secondary school № 2. Its pupils established this with their own exhibits. 60 children work at the establishment with some pupils also serving as guides for visitors to the museum.

Vitaliy Bulgakov, school pupil:
- We collect exhibits and search for new WW2 veterans. We ask them how they fought during the war. They can also voluntarily donate their exhibits to the museum.

Recently, one of the school-leavers went to study in Vladivostok and found a war veteran who used to study in the same school. In 1942, Vassiliy Kondryakov joined the war. He served as a reconnaissance officer. Later on, he was sent from Russia to Kazakhstan. He was surprised and happy when he learnt that school pupils had been collecting every available piece of information about the veteran and had kept it in the museum.

Zhanel Sagitova, school pupil:
- Vassiliy Ivanovich and I write a lot to one anther. He has sent us congratulations and post cards, photographs and letters written during the war. He also gave us the certificates he was awarded “For his perfect fulfillment of reconnaissance missions.

This work called “In our memory” was done and presented to the museum by 10th former Ivan Baranov.

Ivan Baranov, school pupil:
- Young people never forget about the war. Through this work, I wanted to show my attitude to the war and that I care about it. I am now working on another project. This one shows the beginning of the war while the new one will depict its end.

A graduate of this school, Alexander Kiyatkin was also invited to the meeting with school pupils. At the age of 18 he joined the Red Army to liberate Belarus. He returned home in 1946.

Alexander Kiyatkin, WW2 veteran:
- I would like to say thanks to our multi-national population and our administration headed by Mr Nazarbayev for providing us with a peaceful life and people who never forget about us. This is the happiness of World War 2 participants. Our grandparents would say: cold and hunger are better than war.
