Meeting with veterans

Almaty, April 06, 2010 (Khabar) - “Zhas Otan” organizes meeting “Ardagerlerdi Ardaktaiyk” with war veterans. The “Zhas Otan” youth wing has orchestrated a meeting of war veterans with young medical officials from the capital city. Veteran Nikita Glebov doesn’t like to reminisce about the war as he had to fight almost throughout the entire war on foot. He was called up for war in 1942 and took part in the liberation of Czechoslovakia and Hungary where he was injured twice. Meeting his family after the Victory is the best memory in his entire life.

Nikita Glebov, WW2 veteran:
- We were told to go home and when I arrived my family couldn’t believe I was alive when they saw me.

Veterans told young doctors and members of the “Zhas Otan” youth wing about the war and working on the home front at the National scientific medical centre.

Nurbol Tursynbayev, surgeon:
- We have to think about the war veterans every day and not just every year on the 9th of May.

Zhanat Tilegenova, cardiologist:
- My paternal grandmother worked on the home front. We visit her often although she lives in another city.

The centre is holding open days with free-of-charge consultations, necessary examination and treatment for war veterans before Victory day. Each of the 256 veterans of the Almaty district in the capital city will receive a financial gift and a food basket before the 9th of May.
