World geographers to gather in Iran next week

TEHRAN, Apr. 6 (MNA) -- World experts and researchers are to gather at the University of Sistan-Baluchistan to attend the 4th international conference of the geographers next week.

Over fifty scholars from 14 countries including Canada, the United States, France, Germany, Britain, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, and China are expected to attend the conference running from April 14 to 16.

The conference has been arranged aiming to strengthen the scientific, social, cultural, and economic relationships among geographers of the world, secretary of the conference Gholamreza Nuri said on Monday.

“To clarify the position of Iran in the region and in the Middle East both academically and politically, and help create a strong relations between the Islamic countries are other goals of the conference,” he added.

Nuri stressed that the gathering is a good opportunity for the country’s scholars to meet those of other countries and exchange views and find ways to implement the latest developments.

“The economic and geopolitical importance of the Persian Gulf in the region, and helping to revive the Silk Road to boost Islamic common markets are among the topics to be discussed at the conference.

“The location of Sistan-Baluchistan Province in southeastern Iran and its role in connecting the world of Islam, the commercial situation in Chabahar Free Trading Zone, and the significance of ecotourism in the region are other issues to be discussed,” Nuri explained.

Nuri said that 400 articles were submitted to the secretariat of which 260 are selected, adding, “seventy articles will be presented at the conference and the rest will be published.”
