Daewoo Shipbuilding wins drill ship order

SEOUL, April 11 (Yonhap) -- Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., South
Korea's No. 2 shipbuilder, said Sunday it has won a deal to build a drill ship.
Under a deal with the state-run Korea National Oil Corp., Daewoo Shipbuilding
will build the vessel used for oil exploration. The shipbuilder, however, did not
reveal the amount of the contract.
The vessel will be used in the large Zhambyl oil field in Kazakhstan. A South
Korean consortium won the right to drill the offshore oil field in the Caspian
Sea. It is estimated to hold about 1 billion barrels of crude oil, more than the
870 million barrels that South Korea imports on an annual basis.
