BRUSSELS, April 13 (Itar-Tass) - Russia's First Vice-Premier Igor
Shuvalov arrives here on Tuesday for a two-day visit, an official at the
Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation (RF) at the European Union
(EU) has told Itar-Tass.
The diplomat said, "The Russian Vice-Premier is to meet with Catherine
Ashton, EU High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, in
Brussels on Tuesday, and hold talks with Jose Manuel Barroso, President of
the European Commission (EC), on Wednesday". The diplomat did not say
anything about an agenda of the talks.
An EC official, for his part, told Itar-Tass that the upcoming talks
in Brussels would deal with "an economic vector of Russia-EU cooperation".
In particular, the question of Russia's accession to the World Trade
Organization (WTO) may be touched upon. The RF intends to accede to the
WTO within the framework of the Customs Union, which also includes
Kazakhstan and Belarus.

.Hongkong forum to discuss ways to attract capital to RF.

HONGKONG (XIANGGANG), April 13 (Itar-Tass) - Possibilities for the
attraction of capital from Asia to Russia and the role of Hongkong in the
investments-related cooperation between the Russian Federation (RF) and
China are the main subjects of discussion at a business forum opening here
on Tuesday. The forum is to be attended by the chiefs and executives of
the Hongkong stock exchange, banks, financial and law companies, as well
as those of a number of Russian corporations -- 300 people, all in all
Such a forum is held here for the first time. Sergei Razov, the
Ambassador of the RF to the People's Republic of China (PRC), pointed out
in an Itar-Tass interview earlier, "This Special Administrative District
of the PRC is now one of the most successful financial centers both in
Asia and in the world as a whole". He stated mounting interest on the part
of large Russian companies in appearing with listing at the Hongkong stock
exchange. Thus, at the end of January, the shares of the first Russian
issuer -- the giant aluminium producer RUSAL -- already made a debut at
this trading floor.
The Ambassador's opinion is that "Hongkong performs the role of the
leading financial floor in the Asia-Pacific Region, the floor that will be
undoubtedly used by Russian organizations which are interested in gaining
financing".
A delegation of the Hongkong business community is to visit Russia's
Far Eastern regions in May. The delegation is to be led by John Cang,
Secretary (Minister) for Financial Affairs.
