Monument "Kazak Yeli" was opened
Astana, 7 July 2008, Khabar - Solemn opening of main monument of country, Independence Monument was opened in Astana on July 6. it is dedicated to historic fate of Kazakh people.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of RK was present at the ceremony. The head of the state noted this monument will
symbolize unity and wish for future of whole Kazakhstani people.
Dmitry Kryukovich, correspondent:
- The idea of creation of monument belongs to the head of our state,
Nursultan Nazarbayev. The monument looks great and symbolically. Its height
is 91 meters - year of Kazakhstan's gaining of independence. The sculptures
of khans Zhanibek and Kerey and 6 warriors who fought against conquerors
will be set near the base of the monument soon. The mythical bird Samruk
ends the composition. It protects and gives happiness to the Kazakh people.
The best Kazakhstani architects, Samatbek Bokebai and Sembigali Smagulov
worked over the project. They elaborated the monumental ensemble. The
120-meter colonnade encircles the main stele and fountains are set up
nearby. Everything is of white color. The authors say, just this color
symbolizes the purity of thoughts and high wishes of Kazakh people.
Genandy Zhilovsky, builder:
- I am son of purged Polish and German people. My grandchild is Kazakh, that
's why I came for the ceremony of monument opening. I visited many
countries, and when I see these kind friendly faces I feel confidence that
we will have peace and concord.
Tokzhan Sadykov, Astana resident:
- Our youth will come here and lay flowers and will always respect this
monument. Such a wonderful monument was erected in the heart of Eurasia and
it will remain in history and in 1000 years it will symbolize Kazakhstan's
independence.
Monument "Kazak Yeli" is the largest one in the country today. And the
President said it is the main monument of the country from now on. The
foreign delegations and guests will come just here from now on. Nursultan
Nazarbayev says this place will be the peculiar beginning of whole
multinational Kazakhstan.

- This monument is the main monument of the country. Nobody must forget the
thorny path that was passed by Kazakh people on its way to the independence.
It si long fight against conquerors and colonial period and Great Patriotic
War, and post-war reconstruction. The monument reflects all these events. It
is a good example of patriotism for youth. It is the brightest example of
bonds of generations and aspirations for future.
Famous musical groups of the capital performed during the holiday. Several
hundreds of artists participated in ballade "Legend about Gold Warrior".
Large-scale musical staging impressed everyone. Then the people watched the
monument from close distance and they liked it very much. (Khabar Agency)
