Hiroshima survivor sees aircraft that dropped A-bomb at U.S. museum+

DAYTON, Ohio, April 25 Kyodo -
An atomic-bomb survivor visited a U.S. military museum in Dayton, Ohio, on
Saturday to see the U.S. bomber Bockscar which dropped an atomic bomb on
Nagasaki in 1945 during World War II.
As the National Museum of the United States Air Force gives no explanation on
casualties and other data about the atomic bombing, Rumi Hanagaki, 70, said in
tears, ''I hope the museum will show the negative aspect of history by
displaying materials on atomic-bomb victims.''
Hanagaki, who is in the United States to share her experiences ahead of the
Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference in New York, was 1.7
kilometers from ground zero in the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945, when
she was 5 years old.
The 30-meter-long, 43-meter-wide Bockscar dropped an atomic bomb on Nagasaki on
Aug. 9, 1945, three days after the Hiroshima bombing.
William Shaw, 67, a local peace group leader who accompanied Hanagaki, said the
museum attracts 1.3 million visitors annually and that he was concerned that
little children may think the bombings were justified.
