Hyundai Steel Q1 net rises nearly five-fold on increased sales

SEOUL, April 27 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Steel Co., South Korea's No. 2 steelmaker,
said Tuesday its net profit rose nearly five-fold in the first quarter from a
year ago thanks to increased sales.
The company earned 254.5 billion won (US$222.2 million) in the three months to
March, compared with 51.5 billion won a year ago, Hyundai Steel said.
The steelmaker posted 2.02 trillion won in sales in the period, up 8.8 percent
from a year ago. Operating profit gained 37.6 percent on-year to 132 billion won.
