Shipments handled at Korea's seaports jump in Q1

SEOUL, April 27 (Yonhap) -- Shipments handled at South Korea's seaports jumped
during the first quarter of this year from the same period a year earlier amid
steadily improving global economic conditions, a report showed Tuesday.
According to the report by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs,
a total of 281 million tons of shipments were handled at 29 trading seaports
across the nation last year, up 12.3 percent from a year earlier.
The increase was attributed mostly to a hike in exports of vehicles, steel and
chemical products, whose handling at the seaports jumped on-year 36 percent, 31.2
percent and 23.9 percent, respectively, the report said.
