'INNOVATIVE WORKERS KEY TO TRANSFORMATION' PICKED AS THEME FOR 2010 LABOUR DAY

KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 (Bernama) -- The Human Resources Ministry has picked 'Innovative Workers Key to Transformation' as the theme for this year's Labour Day celebrations on May 1, said its minister Dr S. Subramaniam.

Subramaniam said the theme was picked as it reflected the important role
played by workers to be innovative and creative in efforts to fulfill the
transformation of the country into a high income nation by 2020.

"The government is concerned and committed in drafting policies and
strategies for the welfare, security and comfort of the people, especially
workers who contribute tremendously towards the development and economy of the
country.

"We realise that progress and harmony achieved today was the result of a
close relationship between workers, employers and the government. As such, all
the relevant parties must maintain the understanding as the best model for the
country to continue progressing," he said in a statement Thursday.

Subramaniam said to achieve the objective and make it a reality, workers
must master expertise and knowledge to be competitive in the global stage.
