PRESIDENT HOPES THAI CONFLICT TO BE SOLVED PEACEFULLY

Jakarta, April 29 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has expressed hope that a peaceful and democratic political solution could be reached in Thailand following the recent violence in Bankok.

The head of state expressed the hope to visiting Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya at the presidential office here on Thursday morning.

"After listening to the explanations about the political situation in Thailand from the country`s foreign minister, President Yudhoyono expressed hope that a peaceful and democratic political solution in accordance with the rule of law can be reached," presidential special staff for foreign affairs Dino Patti Djalal said.

Dino said President Yudhoyono also hoped that good communication between the governments of Indonesia and Thailand in the future could continue to be maintained.

According to him, President Yudhoyono told the Thai foreign minister that Indonesia respected the sovereignty in Thailand.

The president received the Thai foreign minister at his office at 11 on Thursday morning.

On the occasion, President Yudhoyono was flanked by Deputy Foreign Minister Triyono Wibowo, Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam, and some other staff officials.

At the meeting the President said the relations between the two countries were very good, and need to be expanded.

"As you know our relations are very good and I hope your visit will strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries and and this meeting is very important," the President said.

The Head of State on the occasion asked about the latest situation in Thailand.

"With regard to the situation in Thailand I will listen to your explanation so that I will have a clear understanding on what is happening in Thailand as a partner strong partner," the president said.
