SRI MULYANI QUESTIONED ABOUT JPSK

Jakarta, April 29 (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commissin (KPK) investigators on Thursday questioned Finance Minister Sri Mulyani about the issuance of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law on the Financial System Safety Net (JPSK).

After being questioned by the KPK, the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK) former chairperson admitted that she was asked about the issuance of JPSK in Bank Century bail out.

Sri Mulyani said she was also asked about the chronology of global crisis which threatened the Indonesian economy.

"It was about the background of the global crisis and the issuance of the government regulation in lieu of law on the financial system safety net," Sri Mulyani said.

But she added that she forgot several questions being asked by the KPK investigators in the 2.5-hour questioning from 10.30 am to 1 pm at Finance Ministry office.

Asked about further investigation by the KPK investigators, the KSSK) former chairperson said she had yet to receive any confirmation about it.

"Let`s wait and see," Sri Mulyani said.

Due to her questioning, Sri Mulyani could not attend a cabinet meeting regularly held at the presidential palace on Thursday.

Besides Sri Mulyani, the KPK investigators on the same day were also scheduled to quiz former central bank (Bank Indonesia) governor who is now Vice President Boediono.

Boediono and Sri Mulyani were among those named by several party factions in the House`s Bank Century Inquiry Committee as responsible for the Bank Century scandal.

Last March, the House of Representatives` plenary session of the Bank Century bailout scandal concluded that the bailout policy had covered up irregularities, violations of banking regulations and criminal laws, instances of corruption and money laundering.

The House`s final conclusion was supported by the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Golkar Party, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), the United Development Party (PPP), the Great Indonesian Movement Party (Gerindra), and the People`s Conscience Party (Hanura).
