INDONESIAN PRESIDENT INVITED TO G-15 SUMMIT IN TEHRAN

Jakarta, April 29 (ANTARA) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has invited his Indonesian counterpart Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to attend G-15 Summit in Tehran next month.

Presidential special staff for foreign affairs Dino Patti Djalal mentioned the invitation from the Iranian leader after accompanying President Yudhoyono to receive Iranian Communication and Information Minister Reza Taghipour Anvari at the Presidential Office here on Thursday.

"The Iranian communication and information minister handed the invitation letter from Ahmadinejad to President Yudhoyono to attend the G-15 in Tehran on May 17, 2010," Dino said.

He explained that President Yudhoyono was pleased to receive the invitation from his Iranian counterpart and read it immediately.

But the Indonesian head of state, according to Dino, would consider his presence in the G-15 summit because in May the president is scheduled to make an overseas trip to visit a number of countries.

"President Yudhoyono was pleased to receive the invitation but said he would consider whether he could attend the summit or not," Dino said.

The president on Thursday morning at his office received Iranian Communication and Information Minister Reza Taghipour Anvari.

On the occasion the President expressed the need for increasing the close relations between Indonesia and Iran.

"We are happy to receive Your Excellency today and may this occasion promote further the close relations and cooperation between Indonesia and Iran," the President said at the beginning of the meeting.

The Head of State also said that the good relations between the two countries were also marked by the close ties between the two heads of state.

"The relations between Indonesia and Iran are going well including my personal relations with my friend President Ahmadinejad, which we are still maintaining while seeking new opportunities which we would increase in the interest of the two nations, the Indonesian and Iranian nations," the President said.
