Traditional Korean food to be showcased at Shanghai Expo

SEOUL, April 29 (Yonhap) -- South Korea plans to showcase traditional Korean
foods at the upcoming World Expo in Shanghai, government officials said Thursday.
The farm ministry said it will open a food exhibition and tasting corner at the
country's national pavilion covering 6,000 square meters during the May 1-Oct. 31
event in the Chinese city.
Visitors to the food corner will be able to see various traditional dishes and
learn about their nutritional value on full touchscreen panels starring rock
singer and actor Rain, as well as take part in tasting events.
Recipe information on eight dishes -- such as seasoned beef ribs called "galbi"
and "bibimbap," a dish made from rice mixed vegetables and beef -- will be
offered to visitors, along with booklets on how to best eat various traditional
foods.
The ministry in charge of exporting locally produced farm products and food also
plans to hold exhibits on how to make "kimchi," a spicy fermented side dish made
from cabbages and radishes, as well as highlight the unique tastes of traditional
alcoholic beverages during "Korea Week" that runs from May 26-30.
