UI TO HOLD BAHASA INDONESIA INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR

Depok, W Java, Indonesia, May 2 (ANTARA) - The lexicological and lexigraphical laboratory of the linguistic department, Cultural Sciences Faculty of University of Indonesia (UI) will hold an International Seminar of the Birth of Bahasa Indonesia themed "Periodization in History of Bahasa Indonesia".
"The seminar is held on the occasion of National Education Day," head of UI Communication Office Vishnu Juwono said here on Sunday, adding that the seminar will be held on Monday (May 3) at the UI auditorium from 8 am to 4 pm local time.
Vishnu said a purpose of the seminar is to reach agreement on the structural and social periodization in the use of Bahasa Indonesia or the national language.
Keynote speaker will be Prof.Dr. Kyoko Funada, of Waseda University, who will deal with the Period of Bahasa Indonesia during the Japanese Era.
He said the not much of the period was known by Indonesian academicians. In the meantime, Prof. Dr. Harimurti Kridalaksana, UI professor, will deal with the theoretical aspect of pre-historical aspects of the Bahasa Indonesia.
The seminar will also feature experts in the history of Bahasa Indonesia like Prof. Stefanus Djawanai, M.A. of Gajah Mada University, and Rusli Abdul Gani, M.A. of Malaysia's Linguistic and Literary Council.
