SYAFII MAARIF ONE OF SELECTION COMMITTEE MEMBERS FOR KPK CHAIRMAN

Jakarta, May 2 (ANTARA) - Ahmad Syafii Maarif, former Executive Board chairman of Muhammadiyah, a major Indonesian Muslim organization, was chosen as one of the selection committee members for the election of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman.

Other figures namely Todung Mulya Lubis, legal affairs practitioner and former Vice Chairman of the KPK, Erry Riyana Hardjapamekas, have also been proposed by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security affairs Djoko Suyanto to the president, said Justice and Human Rights Minister, Patrialis Akbar.

Minister Patrialis Akbar made the remarks following his working visit to Medan, capital city of North Sumatra province on Saturday (May 1).

"I saw the names proposed by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security affairs were Ahmad Syafii Maarif, Todung Mulya Lubis, and Erry Riyana Hardjapamekas," Akbar said.

Earlier, Justice and Human Rights Minister, Patrialis Akbar was also proposed to chair the selection committee for the election of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman, representing the government.

Akbar said further that the forming of the selection committee
involved several elements, among others, government officials, academicians and legal practitioners.

Report had also said that the selection committee for the KPK chairman selection has been completed.

"The composition of the selection committee has been completed and handed over by the Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs to the Cabinet Secretary," Coordinating Minister Djoko Suyanto said here on Wednesday.

"The composition of the selection committee is waiting for the president's approval," Djoko said, adding that he could not mention the names submitted to the selection committee.

"Later, after the composition of the selection committee signed by the President. If it has not been approved and signed by the President I will not mention it, fearing of any change of names," he added.
