20 MALAYSIANS TO JAPAN FOR STUDENTS EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

KUALA LUMPUR, May 24 (Bernama)-- Twenty Malaysian students will leave for
Japan Monday night to participate in the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange
for Students and Youths(JENESYS) programme.

The 10-day programme involves the participation of students from all Asean
member countries and Timor Leste.

Education Ministry's Residential and Cluster Schools Management Division
director Ashah Samah said students who were selected for the programme were
those conversant in the Japanese language.

"They are from high performance schools and excel in academic and
co-curriculum activities," she said at a function hosted by the Japanese Embassy
here today.

Meanwhile, Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia, Masahiko Horie, said the
students would get to taste the various aspects of Japanese life, like lifestyle
and culture as well as able to enjoy the urban and rural sceneries there.

He said that after an orientation and a brief Japanese language class in
Tokyo, the students would be divided into 10 groups and sent to the 10
prefectures in Japan, Hokkaido, Miyagi, Ibaraki, Niigata, Aichi, Osaka,
Hyogo, Hiroshima, Fukuoka and Okinawa.

"The programme is unique because they will get an opportunity to interact
with not only the Japanese but also students from other Asean countries and
Timor-Leste", he added.
