Road toll victims remembered

The lives of 1500 Australians lost on the roads each year has been remembered with
1500 pairs of shoes lined up.
In the centre of Melbourne on Friday 1500 pairs of shoes were lined up in Federation
Square, with `empty shoes' events also held in Brisbane's Reddacliff Place and
Townsville's Strand Park.
The event has been called Fatality Free Friday with founder and author Russell White
urging Australians to pledge to be careful on the roads.
"It was a very dramatic and moving display that will help bring the humanity back to
the statistics we hear time and time again," Mr White said.
This was the fourth year of the campaign.
