Providing of villages with drinking water

Aktau, June 02, 2010 (Khabar) - Water accumulating station appeared in the village Kyzyltobe of Munaily district in Mangistau region. It is able to provide drinking water to people in the village for quite a long time, and minimize transportation of costs for its delivery. Mangistau region is located in the desert zone, moreover, distance between the settlements is very large and the water was brought here from other districts.
Work for the supply of remote desert village in Mangistau region started two years ago. Running water pipeline was set up here from Aktau. Today the village has a water accumulating station for 4,000 cubic meters. The local oil company allocated funds for the construction of this station. Now the villagers can get water in the vicinity of their homes.
The local leadership says today the region is provided with drinking water by 100 percent. But even though the population uses clean water, it is brought from villages, which have water accumulating stations. Orash Chitanov is a father of 6 children. He dug a well in his yard, and once a month, he takes water from it. Large family has to economize purchased water every possible way. The family also buys water from water carrying machine.

Orash Chitanov, a local resident:
- 1 water-carrier is 6 cubic meters of water. It is approximately 3,500 tenge. This is a cheap price. And some of them ask 5 thousand, 10 thousand tenge. of Water becomes more expensive especially in summer.

The “Drinking Water” program will last till 2011, and it is coming to and end. It is expected to build a water accumulator stations in 15 auls (villages). This will reduce the cost of water.

Sapar Amanbekov, management utilities department:
- Now all villages, towns have water sources. But in very small quantities, in addition, the water contains much salt and it is undrinkable. By installing a small station, we are creating the conditions for drinking water.

Another problem is setting running water not only in every village but also in every house. However, there is a lack of funds for this so far.
