Monument of founders of Kazakh khanate is opened

Astana, June 02, 2010 (Khabar) - A new place of interest is opened in Astana’s historical center as Nursultan Nazarbayev has unveiled a monument to Zhanibek and Kerey, the founders of the Kazakh khanate. This event gathered over 3 000 people. Zhanibek and Kerey are the first Kazakh khans. At the mid of 15th century they managed to unite the residents of great steppe and found a new state on its territory.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan:
- We remember and value the heritage of our predecessors. We value the contribution made by the founder of the Kazakh khanate, Zhanibek and Kerey to the history of our nation. Today, we have unveiled this monument as a sign of appreciation and gratitude to them.
The special monument is in a special place. Bronze figures of legendary khans are situated in the centre of Astana.
Anuarbek Yeraly, chairman of “Language and Culture” society:
- Let this monument to stay for eternity. It immortalized the names of our great ancestors. It is very important for future generations of Kazakh people.
Nursultan Nazarbayev underlined that it was the place where the heart of the new capital city started beating to become a symbol of success of the independent Kazakhstan. Over three thousand residents of the capital city have already viewed the grandiose monument at its unveiling ceremony. The first viewers also included a large group of WW2 veterans, especially for whom, a sightseeing tour of Astana’s new places of interest was organised.
