GAZA AID CONVOY DETERMINED TO CONTINUE MISSION

SERI ISKANDAR (Malaysia), June 2 (Bernama) -- Members of the Gaza aid convoy
are adamant about continuing their mission, despite tragedy that had befallen
them and the death of several members following attacks by Israeli commandos on
one of their nine ships.

A Malaysian participant, Mohd Nizar Zakaria, 41, who is also Parit Member of
Parliament (MP) had told his 36-year-old wife, Dr Yuhanis Fazlina Fazil, in a
phone conversation at 5.15pm Tuesday that they were all determined to carry on
with their mission.

Dr Yuhanis said her husband had also asked for all Malaysians to pray for
the safety of all those involved in the aid mission.

"He called briefly to tell me of their situation there ... he also wants the
public not to worry about him," she told reporters at their home in Taman Bandar
Universiti here.

Dr Yuhanis said her husband also had a chance to speak to several members of
the Parit Wanita Umno Division who were at their home when she received the
call.

She said the call, the third from Mohd Nizar since the ship was attacked,
was made on board the Rachel Corie while it was about 800 nautical miles of West
Gaza.

Dr Yuhanis added that her husband had said the convoy would move on with
their mission but were awaiting further orders from the Perdana Global Peace
Organization (PGPO) headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, Parit Umno Youth Division chief Mohd Khairul Shahrir, 37, said
the movement would perform the 'solat hajat' (special prayers) and Yasin
recitation to pray for the safety of those involved in the mission.

He said the programme would be held Tuesday at the Radiatul Mardiah Mosque
in Parit after Maghrib prayers.

"We welcome everyone to join in praying for the safety of Parit MP Mohd
Nizar Zakaria and those in the aid convoy," he added.

In the incident Monday, the Mavi Marmara, which was ferrying humanitarian
aid and 11 Malaysians, including a journalist and a cameraman from Astro Awani,
was attacked by Israeli commandos.
