RI TO EXPLORE INVESTMENT POSSIBILITIES IN MOZAMBIQUE'S AGRO-INDUSTRY

Jakarta, June 11 (ANTARA) - Indonesia is going to explore possibilities of investing in Mozambique's cotton agro-industry, Industry Minister MS Hidayat said.

"Businessmen from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) will leave for Mozambique in the near future to explore possibilities of investing in the cotton plantation sector in that country," the minister said after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on textile and textile product (TPT) with the Mozambican trade and industry minister here on Friday.

He said that so far Mozambique had been supplying cotton to Indonesia but the volume of Indonesia's cotton imports from that country had dropped.

With the signing of the MoU, it was expected that the cooperation would benefit both sides in the textile and textile product sector, he said.

He said that it was expected that Indonesia's import of cotton from Mozambique and its exports of thread and cloths to that country would also increased.

The two countries also agreed to conduct TPT training for Mozambican human resources at Indonesia's training centers.

In the meantime, Kadin's permanent chairman for Africa, Mintardjo Halim said his side would begin exploring investment in the cotton agro-industry in that country next October.

"We will leave for Mozambique in October and at the same time to attend the opening of the Indonesian embassy there," he said.
