16 get Nazrul Award

DHAKA, Bangladesh, July 17 (BSS) - Jatiya Nazrul Samaj (JNS) has given Nazrul Award to 16 personalities for outstanding contribution to their respective fields.

The award was given at a function in the auditorium of
Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh here Tuesday marking the
109th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Secretary of President's Office Md. Sirajul Islam, Executive
Chairman of Board of Investment Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Vice-
Chancellor of Darul Ihsan University Professor Monirul Haque and
DU Pro-VC Professor AFM Yousuf Haider attended the function as
the special guests.

Poet Mahfuzullah (literature), Zafar Ahmed Chowdhury
(literature), Saiful Bari (journalism), Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury
(journalism), Professor Dr Aminul Islam (education), Professor Dr
Golam Mowla (education), Yousuf Abdullah Harun (business and
social service), Shaikh Siraj (agricultural research and
development), Yasmin Mustari (music), Begum Ismat Noor (music),
Professor Dr NA Kamrul Ahsan (medical science), Dr Sheikh
Mohammad Bahar Hossain (medical service), Md. Abdul Mannan
(banking), Iftekhar Ahmed Tipu (organizer), Anu Jaigirdar
(industry) and A B M Fazlul Karim Bahar (social service) got the
Nazrul Award.

JNS Vice-President Poet Abdul Hye Sikder chaired the
function in the absence of JNS President Dr Ashraf Siddique due
to illness.

Speakers recalled the outstanding contribution of Poet Nazrul
to establishing human rights, communal harmony and bringing
freedom for the distressed humanity.

They said Nazrul is a shining star in the present struggle of
the nation for building a society free from hunger, poverty and
deprivation.

The poet has become a model of equality, justice and communal
harmony in our society, they added.

Academics, researchers and students joined the function.
