MALAYSIAN UNIVERSITY TO DECORATE OIC SG WITH HONORARY DOCTORATE
JEDDAH (A.A) - 14.06.2010 - International Islamic University Malaysia will decorate Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu with honorary doctorate on Tuesday.
Speaking to A.A. correspondent on the phone, Ihsanoglu said, "it is an academic title. I am very pleased with this grateful gesture of the Malaysian University."
"I will get this doctorate on behalf of OIC and Turkish scientists. Maybe this is the first time a Turkish citizen gets this award," Ihsanoglu said.
Turkish Professor Ihsanoglu elected OIC SG in December 2004.
The foreign ministers of Islamic states elected Ihsanoglu during a meeting that took place in Istanbul. Previously, he served as the director of the Islamic History Research Center of the OIC - immediately after its establishment in 1980.
