MAGNITUDE-5.7 EARTHQUAKE JOLTS MELONGUANE

Jakarta, June 28 (ANTARA) - An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale hit Melonguane, North Sulawesi, Monday at 6.47 am Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB).

The quake's epicenter was located at 4.90 degrees northern latitude, and 126.95 degrees eastern longitude and a depth of 67 km below sea level, according to information from the national meteorological, geophysics and climatology office, here, Monday.

The temblor, around 218 kilometers northeast of Tahuna (North Sulawesi), did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami.
