Hyundai Rotem wins railcar order from U.S. city

SEOUL, June 30 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Rotem Co., a South Korean train maker, said
Wednesday it has clinched an order worth around 200 billion won (US$160 million)
to supply 50 new railcars to Denver, Colorado.
The order was placed by the U.S. city's public transportation bureau that is
building three electric railways for completion in 2016. The railcars will be
delivered by 2013, Hyundai Rotem said.
The company said the U.S. city is expected to place an order for an additional 34
railcars.
The deal comes as the South Korean train maker is seeking to take part in U.S.
projects to build 11 high-speed railways by 2012, worth a combined $9.3 billion.
"Hyundai Rotem will work to secure an upper position in the bid for the
high-speed railway project in Florida by successfully delivering top-quality
railcars to Denver," the company said in a press release.
