Five die in two days on Victorian roads

A motorcyclist on L-plates who crashed his bike in Melbourne on Saturday became the
fifth person to die on Victoria's roads in two days.
The 29-year-old from Hoppers Crossing was riding along South Rd, at bayside East
Brighton, when he lost control of his bike at about 1.40pm (AEST) on Saturday.
He was thrown from the bike, hitting a parked car, and was declared dead at the scene.
Another motorcyclist who had been riding with him was not injured.
Speed may have been a factor in the crash, say police.
Victoria's motorcycle road toll is soaring, with Saturday's victim the state's 33rd
motorbike rider to lose his life this year.
There had been only 17 motorbike fatalities recorded at the same time in 2009.
Four fatal crashes occurred on Friday, all in country Victoria.
A 27-year-old Indian man died in a car accident north of Omeo, while four others in
the car were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
In Kerang, a German national died and a girl of about 10 was left in a critical
condition after an accident that police said may have been caused by driver fatigue.
A man in his 20s died when his car careered into a creek in Glenthompson at 3.40am
(AEST) Friday, and a 74-year-old man died in hospital after an accident in
Casterton.
After a record-low road toll of 295 last year, the state's toll is currently 168, 15
more than this time last year.
