Man dies after violent home invasion

The relatives of a man who died trying to protect his mother during a Sydney home
invasion says the 25-year-old would have done anything for his family.
The young man, who has been named by media as Keslie Burgess, was attacked by four
men armed with a machete and an axe in his Lurnea home in Sydney's west just before
midnight on Thursday.
Police said the victim was trying to help his mother, 47, who sustained a wound to
the hand when one of the attackers lashed out at her.
Mr Burgess was then slashed with the machete, police say.
He died in Liverpool Hospital on Friday night after suffering major blood loss from
wounds to his wrists, legs and ankles.
His girlfriend, 25, and stepfather, 56, were also in the house at the time.
Mr Burgess' distraught mother said her son died trying to protect his family.
"He always said from about seven years of age that he would die for us, and my boy
died right here protecting us," his mother, who was not named, told the Nine Network
on Saturday.
"It's not right, the viciousness of the attack is not right."
The man's older brother, Terence White, said life would never be the same again and
urged anyone with information on the attackers to contact police.
"I've lost my little brother, it will never be the same," Mr White told the Seven
Network on Saturday.
"My brother was all about his family, he's always said from a kid that he'd die for
his family and that's what he's done.
The intruders, described as being aged in their 20s and wearing dark clothing, fled
the scene in an unknown direction, police say.
The victims did not know their attackers, police say.
Anyone with information on the incident should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
