Ports cities development is one of govt`s priorities, al-Arhabi

SANA'A, July 03
(Saba) - Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Abdul Karim al-Arhabi
affirmed
on Saturday that the ports cities development is one of the government's priorities.
During his meeting with the World Bank (WB)'s mission to review the Yemeni Ports
Cities Development Program, al-Arhabi pointed to the importance of accelerating the
inauguration
of the program's second phase ,praising what has been achieved in the program's
first phase.
He stressed the significance of completing the establishment of the Yemeni ports
cities' infrastructure to enable them to carry out their vital role in enhancing
the national
economy, noting that the development of the promising economic areas in Yemen,
especially the ports cities of Yemen, is a basic pillar for achieving the desired
economic
growth.
For its part, the WB's mission affirmed that there are underway preparations to
inaugurate the second phase of the Yemeni Ports Cities Development Program,
pointing to the
level of the existing cooperation between the Yemeni government and the Bank in this
aspect.
The Yemeni government approved in last March an agreement to finance the second
phase of the Ports Cities Development Program, initialed with the International
Development
Association (IDA), under which the IDA would provide a grant of an amount,
equivalent to 23.1 million units of Special Drawing Rights (SDRs).
