FESTIVAL KL DESTINED TO BECOME A MAJOR CULTURAL EVENT IN ASIA

KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 (Bernama) -- The Kuala Lumpur Festival (Festival KL)
can become a major cultural event in the Asian region due to its unique
composition of cultures from various Asian countries said Malaysia's Culture and
Arts Department Director, Norliza Rofli.

Norliza said the festival, being organised for the fifth year, had placed
Kuala Lumpur as the main focus of various countries in the region, as well as
promoted the culture of the Malaysia.

"The various cultures available in Malaysia is unique, unlike in other
countries where there are only one or two. Here we have the Malays, Chinese,
Indians and other ethnic groups," she told the Hello Malaysia talk programme,
hosted by Bernama TV here Monday night.

Norliza said through the cooperation of the private sector, 115 activities
were included in the festival that would last for a month (July) and expected to
attract about 600,000 local fans and tourists.

"When the Cabinet first approved Festival KL in 2006, only 35 activities
were organised," she said.
