Almaty, July 15, 2010 (Khabar) - Underground Railway Carriages delivered to Almaty. The first lot of electric engines has arrived from South Korea to serve in the Almaty Underground railway system. The carriages were constructed taking into consideration all the local requirements. The train is painted in blue and yellow colours symbolizing the colours of Kazakhstan’ national flag.

Akhmetzhan Yesimov, Almaty mayor:
- The construction of the Almaty underground is now going on schedule. We are convinced that the Almaty underground will be commissioned before the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence.

The first lot is made up of four trains with four carriages in each. Another three trains consisting of 12 carriages will be delivered to Almaty in early autumn. The first line of the underground will stretch under Furmanov Street from Raimbek Avenue to Abai Avenue and Gagarin Street. The total length of the route will total as much as 8.5 kilometres. The next line will go from Abai Avenue to the village of Kalkaman-3 and from Raimbek batyr station to Amaty-1 railway station. It is also planned to build a second line to run from the Duman residential district through to the Central Park of Recreation along Tole Bi Street to end in the Orbita residential area. Such complex development of the city’s transport system is destined to ease the busy streets of Almaty considerably.

Vladimir Merenkov, chief, Passenger Transport Department:
- In rush hour, the interval between trains will be four minutes. At other times, the trains will be regulated by computers depending on the number of people in order to avoid empty trains running.

The Almaty Underground Railway System for serving the Republic’s largest city is expected to carry up to 300 thousand passengers per day.
