Skirmish occurred on the Kazakhstani-Kyrgyz border
Astana, July 16, 2010 (Khabar) - This was said at the briefing of frontier service of National Security Committee. Two men are killed and one wounded as a result of exchange of fire on the border. On Tuesday, three herders were taking horses from Kyrgyzstan on the area of Saty frontier post. The frontier guards opened a fire trying to stop them.
Amangeldy Abylkanov, deputy director of frontier service of NSC RK:
- The violators showed armed resistance and first attacked the border guards. Skirmish occurred and one of the guards was wounded. During the clashes, two offenders received fatal injuries. Delayed citizen of Kyrgyzstan has already confessed and confirmed that they had violated the state border and fired the first. We seized three weapons and 20 head of horses from the offenders.
On the same day five more people were seized a little bit to the west from Saty frontier post. They were taking 400 pieces of cattle from Kyrgyzstan to Kazakhstan and were also armed but didn’t have time to use weapons. The frontier guards say there is no in general tension on the border with neighboring republic and soon the toughened regime of work will be removed.

- Relations are smoothed with Kyrgyzstan and border toughening regime is already removed and soon usual regime will be imposed in connection with stabilization of situation in the neighboring republic. This is a usual normal regime of work of frontier men. According to the decree of the President, we carry out day and night combat guarding of state border of RK.
Prosecutor’s office, NSC and department of interiod affairs of Almaty investigate the incident on Saty frontier post. Amangeldy Abylkanov noted if law enforcement agencies decide that frontier men used weapons in a relevant way, then they will receive awards.
